Where We Come From: Emily Jacir’s Investigation of Palestinian Longing

June 12—June 28, 2004

Artists:

Emily Jacir

Emily Jacir asked a series of émigrés, refugees, and displaced persons this simple question: “If I could do anything for you, anywhere in Palestine, what would it be?” The responses included simple tasks like “go visit my mother,” “pay my phone bill at the Israeli post office in Jerusalem,” and “eat knife in a particular cafe.” Jacir then carried out each task, recording the acts in color photographs.
