Join Artspace New Haven for a new performance commission by artist Tsedaye Makonnen and her collaborators Jasmine Hearn and Dominique Duroseau at Long Wharf Pier. The work engages transhistorical forced migration of Black communities across the globe and particularly the legacy of New Havener and Black abolitionist and engineer, William Lanson, who built the expansion of Long Wharf. Makonnen’s work seeks to center black life and bring visibility to the many communities of black femmes who have devoted their lives to doing the work. The new commission is part of the exhibition Dyschronics, on view at Artspace New Haven, February 11–April 16, 2022, which explores womxn and non-binary experiences of time within various kinds of migration and features the work of Carolina Caycedo, Baseera Khan, Emily Jacir, and Tsedaye Makonnen.
A Long Wharf Pier Performance by Tsedaye Makonnen is part of the programming series for the exhibition Dyschronics, on view February 11–April 16, 2022 at Artspace New Haven. Following the performance, Artspace New Haven welcomes audiences to join Makonnen and Artspace staff for hot chocolate at the Gallery.
