TIME STANDARDIZATION, CLOCK TOWERS & COLONIALISM IN IRELAND AND PALESTINE

FreeJoin Artspace New Haven and Yalies 4 Palestine in welcoming artist Emily Jacir for a lecture, TIME STANDARDIZATION, CLOCK TOWERS & COLONIALISM IN IRELAND AND PALESTINE. Emily Jacir will discuss her work Notes for a Cannon (2016), an exploration into slippages of and standardization of time, times zones. colonized time, as well as time-keeping practices in public space. Jacir explores the ways in which various times are lived and experienced simultaneously, and touches on Dublin’s loss in 1916 of its own time zone, Dublin Mean Time and the loss of the clocktower at Jaffa gate in Jerusalem. The talk will also discuss earlier works in her practice addressing similar themes on time. Following the artist lecture, the Yalies 4 Palestine will lead a public Q&A.
