Sights in the Sound, an invitational sculpture exhibition, was installed at Long Wharf Park in New Haven, Connecticut from July 1-9, 1995, concurrent with the Special Olympics World Games. The outdoor exhibition was conceived and realized by Artspace to show regional artists for the international audiences which gathered in New Haven during the World Games. Work was selected by members of the Visual Arts Committee of Artspace, which is composed of professionals in the visual arts who volunteer their skills and expertise, and represent a diversity of media viewpoints.

The sculptures, by eighteen artists, from fourteen communities, represent a diverse range in expression. Some of the artists created installations specifically for the harbor site, incorporating its landscape, water, natural light and prevailing winds. Other works were distinguished by dramatic scale or use of materials, which included bronze, steel, cast rubber, fiberglass, polyester resin, clay, wood and mixed media. Presented as a public exhibition on New Haven’s waterfront, these works introduced sculpture to an extended audience.
