Thomas Stavovy

The artist pushes a shovel into the ground, separating a volume of dirt from below. He lifts the volume upward and dumps it on the surface of the ground next to the negative space where the dirt was, creating in that three-part gesture a relation between negative space and positive form. This way of thinking about process infuses ongoing projects.
