My work is committed to the transformative potential of concepts and material, the ability to transform and inspire transformation. Shape shifting is a mantra; I am interested in the fluidity of objects, bodies and identities. I am also interested in roughness, be it in the mess and fray of materials or through confrontation and provocation. In my work I explore the crude and the abject as a direct means for transformation and expression. Like smashing atoms together to find new elements, I like to create cusp moments where the fluid and rough intersect and perhaps open a door to an altogether new path. Some of my favorite artists are Mike Kelly, Alison Saar, David Hammons, Jim Nutt, Ashley Bickerton and Carrie Mae Weems.
