POSTPONED: Yin Yoga with Shukie

March 23 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Join Artspace New Haven and Shukie for a free community yoga class right at Artspace, 50 Orange St. New Haven.

In Yin Yoga, we hold floor-based poses for 3 to 10 minutes to get a deep (but soft and comfortable) stretch. It’s all about letting your body feel the appropriate sensation that’s just right for you—not going too deep, but also not holding back too much tension so as not to feel a stretch in your body at all. Depending on the pose and how it feels, you can hold these poses for less or more time. Modifications for each pose will be suggested/provided so you can practice in a way that best suits your body and needs.

Shukie is a yoga teacher, design engineer, and food blogger. She has training in Strala, Yin, and Restorative styles of yoga and basic training in Shiatsu (a form of Japanese bodywork based on acupuncture from Traditional Chinese Medicine), which she often integrates into her yoga classes. She is a total movement and nutrition nerd. She incorporates her knowledge of both into her yoga teachings and recipe developments. She loves understanding how the human body and mind work to better care for herself. She hopes to inspire others to do the same.

She discovered yoga as a Bollywood dancer in high school. Eventually, she used it to cope with depression and anxiety in college. She now continues to practice every day, no matter what she’s feeling. She knew she wanted to bring yoga to others when she realized what an amazing impact yoga had made in her life!

In her free time, she loves to paint, prepare herbs and spices, explore nature, get lost in books, and practice martial arts. Find her recipes, yoga tips, and musings on her wellness websites: shukieyoga.com and shukieats.com.
