It’s Time to Pivot

March 17, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

Join Artspace New Haven for a screening of A River Speaks. During the COVID-19 crisis, we learned just how terribly individuals, societies, and economies can be affected by natural phenomena. It’s a wake-up call to become more sustainable and resilient in the face of climate change and other natural and human-made disasters. This presentation by local freelance writer and documentary filmmaker Steve Hamm explores how communities can raise awareness and take concerted action. It features a screening of his 2021 documentary, A River Speaks (focusing on our own Mill River), which explores the complex relationship between humans and nature and calls on people to explore their own rivers, learn their secrets, and tell their stories.

It’s Time to Pivot: A Screening by Steve Hamm part of the programming series for the exhibition Dyschronics, on view from February 11–April 16, 2022.

Steve Hamm is a freelance writer and documentary filmmaker based in New Haven. His new book, The Pivot: Addressing Global Problems through Local Action, has just been published by Columbia University Press. The book and his new documentary, A River Speaks, both grew out of his involvement as a journalist in Pivot Projects, a global voluntary collaboration that launched at the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis that is aimed at helping to make the world more sustainable and resilient.
