October 28, 2022 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Join Artspace New Haven in its Open Source 2022 Art Festival: In Common Spaces for a program in its week-long series with artist/organizer Herve Locus for a tagging workshop at the Skate Bowl. Learn the basics of how to create impromptu art with spray paint on public surfaces. Materials will be provided.

Participants will meet at Artspace and walk over to the Skate Bowl together. The workshop will be held at The Skate Bowl on the corner of Orange and George Sts., New Haven, CT.

BIO:

Born and raised in Queens, New York, Herve Locus fell in love with skateboarding when he was given a skateboard by some friends at age 12 while living in Florida. The beautiful weather provided lots of time to practice his skills. As a teen, Locus moved back to Queens and learned its fierce, propulsive language. This was also the time period where he developed his skills as a graffiti writer and was able to cut his teeth in the tough NYC graffiti scene.

When he received a Nikon at age 17, he discovered a new way to move through his environment and the camera also became part of his daily routine. Using his skill as a skater and photographer he documented the NYC skateboarding and graffiti communities, combining photographs and video.

Three years ago, Locus moved from New York to New Haven where he currently lives. He has thrown himself into the skateboarding and art communities and is looking to share his craft with others.
